Is This Supergirl Synopsis Hinting At New Krypton?

Now that Supergirl‘s current season is winding down, it stands to reason the producers are formulating ideas as to how the story may continue next year. In the past, they dropped hints in the closing minutes of finales, but some new information being brought to light causes us to suspect that they’re gradually building toward a massive shakeup to the status quo.

Before proceeding any further, let’s take a look at the official synopsis for “Dark Side of the Moon”:

SUPERGIRL LEARNS A STUNNING SECRET ABOUT KRYPTON – Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) is stunned to discover that a part of Krypton survived. Meanwhile, Alex (Chyler Leigh) is attacked while out with Ruby (guest star Emma Tremblay), and Lena (Katie McGrath) considers how far she will go to keep Reign contained. Hanelle Culpepper directed the episode written by Derek Simon & Katie Rose Rogers (#320). Original airdate 5/28/2018.

Now, it remains to be seen how a part of Krypton survived and in what capacity, but it’s hard not to think about the New Krypton story arc that ran in the comics about a decade ago after reading that description.

In short, it saw a multitude of surviving Kandorians colonize a planet in Earth’s solar system, effectively dubbing it “New Krypton.” This led to the Man of Steel himself getting involved with their society, thus vacating his headlining gigs in his flagship books. In fact, this was when Mon-El took over for him in the pages of Superman.

Should the TV series look to that arc for inspiration, it could lead to Kara being off planet for a brief period, with Mon-El being the natural candidate to look after National City in her stead. Of course, this would present a wonderful opportunity for Tyler Hoechlin to return as Big Blue, but it all comes down to his availability.

Keep in mind we’re speculating here, but we’ve been rather good at picking up scents in the past. Plus, you have to admit there’s a fine chance this could be the direction in which Supergirl is headed.

As for “Dark Side of the Moon,” that’ll air on Monday, May 28 on The CW, so we’ll reconvene afterwards if there are any major developments on this front to discuss.
