ABC Officially Cancels Marvel’s Inhumans

Much to the surprise of no one, ABC has officially cancelled Marvel's Inhumans today, meaning the show won't see a second season.

Inhumans has been doomed from the very beginning, it seems.

First hatched as a big-budget addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, at which point the likes of Vin Diesel and other Hollywood stars were set to climb on board, the troubled project was later repackaged as an eight-part TV series, one which still retained its cinematic DNA thanks to those much-hyped IMAX scenes.

Of course, the journey to the small screen wasn’t without problems of its own, after the first wave of Inhumans reviews deemed Marvel and ABC’s latest project to be a “visual bust.” Those knee-jerk reactions began to surface soon after the show’s IMAX premiere, which took place back in September, when Marvel rolled out the opening two episodes across participating theaters.

Following that, the show struggled to find much of an audience on television and when we didn’t hear anything about it once the first season wrapped up, many assumed that the studio just went ahead and quietly cancelled it, with fans never expecting to see anything from it again. Turns out that’s basically what happened, though now it’s official, as ABC has announced that Inhumans has not been renewed for a second season.

Though the show was certainly nothing to write home about, it’d be a shame if this is the last we see of the gang in the MCU. Black Bolt, Medusa and the rest are some of the most storied characters in Marvel history and once upon a time it looked like the studio were hoping to launch an Inhumans franchise to rival Fox’s X-Men. Obviously, this isn’t the objective anymore, as Disney have now bought out Fox, but it would still be unfortunate if this is it for the property, don’t you think?
