Josh Brolin Calls DCEU A Total Failure And MCU A Massive Success

Deadpool 2 actor Josh Brolin has weighed in on the age-old Marvel/DC debate, and it seems he's not particularly a fan of the latter.

Cast one eye over the summer 2018 movie line-up and you’ll begin to notice a recurring pattern – and no, we’re not referring to the onslaught of superhero movies.

Instead, we kindly point you in the direction of Josh Brolin, who’s already beat the living daylights out of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes for Avengers: Infinity War, while Deadpool 2 is expected to steer the venerable actor into R-rated territory later this week. Capping off his impressive hat-trick is Sicario: Day of the Soldado, in which he’ll reprise as FBI tough nut, Matt Graver.

That’s exciting in and of itself, but on the superhero front, it’s fair to say that Brolin’s back-to-back performances as Thanos and the one-armed Cable have been stealing headlines left, right and center. They’re by no means the actor’s first dalliance with comic book material, either, having headlined the woeful Jonah Hex for Jimmy Hayward all those years ago.

With that in mind, it should come as no surprise that Brolin tends to favor Marvel IP over DC. In fact, while speaking to the press in Germany ahead of Deadpool 2, the actor was asked straight-up about the difference between Marvel and DC, to which he replied:

Total failure and massive success.

Ouch! Granted, there’s every chance Brolin’s comment was taken out of context, so don’t be fooled into thinking that the Infinity War actor is antagonizing the DC community.

For Deadpool 2, it appears critics have really taken to Brolin’s performance as Cable – hell, Fox even ordered a series of reshoots to beef up the character’s role – and our own Matt Donato certainly had high praise for David Leitch’s effort, deeming his sequel to be an “overstuffed cinematic burrito of raunchy insults, dismembering violence and a “no f#*ks given” attitude that’s ready to burst at any second, but somehow holds together bite after enjoyable bite.” We’ll see for ourselves if that’s the case when the Merc arrives in theaters this Friday.
