Rob Liefeld, founding father of Deadpool and his wicked ways, has been a vocal proponent of the Merc’s resurgence ever since the Tim Miller reboot graced theaters (and made history) two years ago.
And with Deadpool 2 now teetering on the verge of release, Liefeld was in attendance at the sequel’s red carpet event earlier this week, where he spoke to Variety about what comes next for Wade Wilson. An X-Force movie is already on the cards, of course, after 20th Century Fox tapped Drew Goddard to write and potentially direct the superhero smackdown which, in the vein of Justice League and Avengers: Infinity War, places DP in the midst of a full-blown ensemble.
It’s for this reason that Liefeld firmly believes the future is bright for Ryan Reynolds and his on-screen lunatic, after the comic book scribe told Variety that he sees no end to Deadpool’s reign.
The door is wide open. X-Force, more Deadpool. I think the fans are going to speak this weekend and I’m going to go ahead and guarantee success. I know my own people. I know fans. It’s going to be huge, and I think there’s going to be many more to come.
Make no mistake, this is a franchise with plenty of gas in the tank. Not only has Fox nailed down a four-film arc for Josh Brolin’s Cable, but it’s nigh on certain that Goddard’s X-Force movie will leave the door open to a possible sequel, particularly now that Ryan Reynolds continues to downplay the chances of a third Deadpool solo movie.
Be that as it may, Deadpool 2 reaches U.S. theaters tomorrow, May 18th, and it’s shaping up to be a fun-filled treat teeming with cheeky references and more Easter eggs than you can shake a chimichanga at.
