Gotham Season 5 Teaser Trailer Promises That There’s More To Come

Given that the season finale of Gotham was titled "No Man's Land," anyone who's the slightest bit familiar with Batman comic books would've been able to tell you that a great calamity was going to befall the city - and it did, as Ra's al Ghul and Jeremiah Valeska succeeded in blowing bridges leading out of the metropolis. As a result, the government has pretty much left anybody remaining to their own devices.

Much like the source material, gangs have begun carving their own territories, with Barbara Kean now leading the League of Shadows (more on her in a moment), as well as villains such as Mr. Freeze, Firefly and Scarecrow also ready to unleash their own brands of havoc. Plus, Jeremiah is in the wind, with a determined Bruce Wayne on his trail.

Still, there were some surprises in store, as the aforementioned Barbara finally succeeded in killing Ra’s al Ghul, thus assuming control of the League and making it an all-female club. Butch Gilzean, meanwhile, was cured of his Solomon Grundy affliction by Hugo Strange at the behest of Penguin, ultimately to be murdered by the vengeful Cobblepot soon after. This, of course, was to spite Butch’s lover, Tabitha Galavan, who’d offed Oswald’s mother a few years back.

Naturally, we’d have to be here for hours to properly discuss everything that went down, but I’m sure some of you were wondering who those creepy masked folks were near the end of the episode.

Well, thanks to news breaking earlier today saying that Mother and Orphan will be popping up in season 5, I was able to put two and two together. This take may be putting a more macabre twist on the concept, sure, but the producers undoubtedly had to streamline the characters if we’re to place them in an isolated setting. After all, it wouldn’t make much sense for anyone to do some globetrotting at the moment, would it?

So, after Bruce felt compelled to answer Gordon’s precursor to the Bat Signal, we were treated to a teaser trailer (seen at the top), letting everyone who may not have heard know that a fifth season is indeed on the way. Granted, it’s more so a sizzle reel replaying the past year’s greatest hits, but we’re going to need some comfort knowing that we’ll have to wait until 2019 for the final leg of the journey to begin.

Regardless of the hiatus, we’ll continue bringing you news pertaining to Gotham leading up to whenever the premiere arrives, so stay tuned.
