Deadpool 2 Writers Hint That We’ll See More Of Peter In Future Films

Those hoping to see more of Rob Delaney's Peter from Deadpool 2 are in luck, as it sounds like he'll show up again in the franchise.

What Peter W. might lack in superpowers he certainly makes up for in sheer courage.

Coming out of Deadpool 2‘s final trailer, Rob Delaney’s decidedly human sidekick – an Average Joe amongst Average Joes – emerged as something of an early fan-favorite, not least because his dedicated Twitter feed has brought us a little bit closer to the would-be superhero ensemble known as the X-Force.

It’s a team that also includes Domino (Zazie Beetz), Bedlam (Terry Crews), Shatterstar (Lewis Tan) and Zeitgeist, the acidic-spewing anti-hero played by Bill Skarsgard of It. On paper, there’s not much room for a power-less human like Peter, but that certainly doesn’t stop him from applying for the X-Force nonetheless – an application that the Merc With a Mouth quickly accepts, resulting in the moment when Delaney’s supporting player is hurled out of a cargo plane alongside the rest of the group in order to intercept a precious convoy.

But can fans expect to see more of the lovable character beyond Deadpool 2? That’s a good question, and one we don’t have a definitive answer to just yet. That being said, writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese were recently asked about the possibility of a Peter spinoff, and while we can’t imagine that happening, it does sound like we haven’t seen the last of him.

Chatting to Screen Rant, here’s what they said:

Rhett Reese: Yeah. It could get a little boring though. I mean, he’s out behind the house doing his beekeeping and working on payroll during the day and stuff like that. Buying some khakis. Going to J. Crew to buy some dockers. But yeah, we’d love to see more of Peter.

Paul Wernick: And probably will.

Of course, as those who’ve seen the film will know, Peter actually dies during the X-Force mission. However, if you stuck around for the post-credits scenes, you’ll have seen that DP goes back in time and saves him. As Wade feels bad for the ordinary guy, he encourages Peter to go home and keep safe.

However, Rob Delaney’s a lot of fun in the role and fans have certainly taken to the character, so we wouldn’t be surprised if he came back as comic relief in X-Force. Especially as T.J. Miller has been confirmed to not be returning as Weasel. That, combined with Wernick and Reese’s comments here have us feeling pretty confident that Deadpool 2 isn’t the last time Peter will show up on the big screen.
