In a move that is surely not going to please many in the US, the new adaptation of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy which is generating some serious awards buzz, has been pushed back three weeks from its original release date of November 18th to December 9th. A move that will frustrate many but with a producer mind set it is a move that makes sense.
Had it stuck to its original release date, the film would have had to face off against teen girls and vampires with The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn and tap dancing penguins in Happy Feet Two. Also, the December release date confirms even more that the studio are very interested in priming this for serious awards consideration. Plus, on that date it only has to contend with Madonna‘s W.E. and Jason Reitman‘s Young Adult, which will probably have less audience interest than this.
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy will however still keep its September 16th release date in the UK. The generous level of buzz it is already accumulating over here will build up sufficient hype for the film’s US debut. People are already talking about Gary Oldman as a serious Best Actor contender and I can’t wait to see his performance.
Meanwhile, to build up tension for the release even more, you can listen here to the score for the film by Spanish composer Alberto Iglesias, which has a suitably Euro vibe mixed with a very Chinatown styled Jerry Goldsmith sensibility. Pretty much perfect for the material.

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, is expected to premiere at Venice in a few days time and will roll out over Europe from there. The film is directed by Tomas Alfredson and stars Oldman, Colin Firth, John Hurt, Tom Hardy, Toby Jones, Benedict Cumberbatch and Mark Strong.
