Between the release of Avengers: Infinity War and Insomniac’s open-world Spider-Man game, 2018 is shaping up to be a pretty incredible year for our friendly neighborhood Web-Head. And it seems even Marvel legend Stan Lee has been swept up by the excitement.
This past weekend, the illustrious comic book creator took to Twitter to reveal that Tom Holland is exactly how he envisioned Peter Parker when he first put pen to paper – from height to age to larger-than-life attitude – and he can’t imagine anyone else better suited to this current incarnation of Marvel’s Spider-Man.
Last seen during Infinity War‘s remarkably bleak finale, we know Holland is all set to reprise his MCU role for both Avengers 4 and Spider-Man: Homecoming 2, which has purportedly set sights on Jake Gyllenhaal for the role of Mysterio. The jury’s still out on that one, mind you, as The Sun isn’t what one would describe as a bastion of journalistic integrity.
Be that as it may, Tom Holland has now posted a Twitter message of his own to thank Stan Lee for his kind words, before reminding the Marvel veteran (and everyone else!) that Spidey’s legacy can still be traced back to Lee and writer-artist Steve Ditko.

It’s a heartfelt exchange that ought to pierce your Monday Blues, particularly when you consider that Stan Lee hasn’t exactly had it easy over the past few months. Between allegations of sexual harassment and possible elder abuse, the industry veteran has been in the press more than he would’ve liked, but his back-and-forth with Holland is living proof that not all news has to be negative.
Look for Tom Holland to stage his second coming for Avengers 4 next May, before Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 follows suit soon thereafter.
