Will Kraven The Hunter Show Up In Spider-Man: Homecoming 2?

The recent news about Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 is helping us form a much clearer picture about what we can expect from the upcoming sequel to Tom Holland's 2017 Spidey solo movie. For one, Jake Gyllenhaal appears to be in talks to play Mysterio, while Michael Keaton is returning as Vulture. Though that's only two supervillains confirmed for now, it does seem that the Sinister Six might be on their way.

And, if that’s true, then we wonder if another major Spider-Man comic book foe will appear as well. Namely, it’s looking possible that Kraven the Hunter could make his live-action debut in Homecoming 2. Our reasoning for this, as pointed out by ComicBook.com, is that Sony was rumored to be interested in doing something with Kraven last July.

The juicy bit here is that the other villain mentioned alongside Kraven was Mysterio. The report in question claimed that Sony was working on solo films for both characters, following on from this year’s Venom and Silver & Black, which is still in development. It’s possible that wires were crossed somewhere along the line though and the two antagonists were actually being prepared for a role in Homecoming 2.

Alternatively, perhaps Sony and Marvel Studios have hatched a jointly-beneficial scheme? Maybe Homecoming 2 will introduce both Kraven and Mysterio, leaving Sony free to develop standalone films for the antagonists somewhere down the road. After all, it would explain why a leading actor of Jake Gyllenhaal’s caliber is being sought after for what could just be one of six villains in the movie.

It’s also worth mentioning that Black Panther director Ryan Coogler has talked about how he’d love to tackle Kraven as a villain for King T’Challa. Maybe Coogler knows something we don’t? That being that the Hunter is one of the Spidey-verse characters Marvel have within reaching distance. In any case, if he does appear in the upcoming sequel, it leaves him free to show up in the Black Panther franchise, too.

Of course, this is all just speculation right now, but we really wouldn’t be surprised if the Sinister Six featured in Spider-Man: Homecoming 2. And seeing as he was a founding member of the villainous team in the comics, Kraven would be a logical addition to the squad.
