Groot, Thor Odinson, and Sweet Rabbit Rocket Raccoon – the three best friends that anyone could have. They’re also the only ones capable of finding Nidavellir, one of the Nine Realms and home to the Dwarves. Or, at least, it was…before Thanos came to town.
While searching for the Infinity Gauntlet, Marvel’s Mad Titan paid a visit to the far-flung star system and slaughtered every Dwarf except Peter Dinklage’s Eitri, King of Nidavellir and Stormbreaker’s one true creator. The latter turns out to be Thor’s replacement for Mjolnir during the events of Avengers: Infinity War, and thanks to the folks over at Art of VFX (h/t CBM), we now have a better look at the weapon’s creation, and how it’s forged from the energy of a dying star.
Thor doesn’t do it alone, of course, as he needs Rocket and Groot to generate enough momentum in order to jump-start Nidavellir’s crumbling mechanisms. Add a touch of godly lightning and you have all the makings of a Thanos-killer – but not before Groot provides some much-needed material for the handle. If only Marvel’s God of Thunder aimed for the head…
Chances are we’ll be paying another visit to Nidavellir next May, as Avengers 4 seemingly involves time travel and alternate timelines, as the remnants of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes attempt to forge a second Infinity Gauntlet and, ultimately, undo the mass extinction event of Infinity War.
Avengers: Infinity War is screening worldwide, with the so-far untitled Avengers 4 primed to close the book on this current Marvel chapter – and herald a “turning point” for the entire MCU, if yesterday’s leaked synopsis is any indication – come 2019.
