You weren’t the only one relieved by Terminator Genisys‘ premature death.
Back in 2015, Paramount had angled its mind-bending action pic as something of a reboot for the venerable franchise, one capable of launching an entirely new trilogy with Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones, Solo: A Star Wars Story) at its core as the new Sarah Connor.
But those plans quickly unraveled once Genisys flopped at the box office, leaving Paramount with little choice but to pull the plug on Skynet, and it wasn’t until James Cameron and Tim Miller (Deadpool) came on board last year that a new iteration of Terminator began to take shape.
For Genisys, though, the ill-fated reboot will always be remembered as a flash in the pan – not that Emilia Clarke is complaining. Per Vanity Fair, the actress admitted that she was “relieved” to see Genisys‘ franchise plans die an early death, as the production was a disaster from start to finish.
As a matter of fact, Emilia Clarke told the outlet that her Game of Thrones cohort, Alan Taylor was “eaten and chewed up on Terminator. He was not the director I remembered. He didn’t have a good time. No one had a good time.” Yikes.
Things got so bad at one point that crew members on Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four reboot – another box office flop of big-name stars and wasted potential – wore jackets that read “AT LEAST WE’RE NOT ON TERMINATOR!”
Suffice it to say, Terminator Genisys was a torturous shoot for everyone involved, so it’s small wonder why Emilia Clarke breathed a sigh of relief when Paramount tossed out plans for a full-blown action trilogy.
