Lucasfilm Said To Be Working On Spinoffs For Multiple Star Wars Characters

When Disney bought out Lucasfilm for the mere price of $4 billion, they got an entire galaxy, filled with tons of characters and countless backstories to dive into. From the movie trilogies, the TV shows, the comic books, and the other various forms of Star Wars stories, there's an entire population just waiting to be explored and now, we're finally beginning to see a number of spinoffs get off the ground.

Labelled the Anthology films, 2016 brought with it Rogue One while this week sees Solo hitting theaters. But the studio isn’t stopping there, as earlier this week they announced that Boba Fett’s next in line for a standalone outing and there’s also that rumored Obi-Wan pic which seems to be gaining some momentum lately. But what comes after that? Well, quite a bit, apparently.

Buried in The Hollywood Reporter’s article about the aforementioned Boba Fett project was the fact that Lucasfilm “is developing movies on a slew of characters.” Aside from Kenobi, the outlet didn’t name any others, but you’ve gotta imagine that Yoda is a definite possibility as well, as he’s a character who’s been brought up a few times now when discussing the Anthology films.

Beyond that, we wouldn’t mind getting a Mace Windu movie, too. With minimal screen time, and not a lot of character development, his presence in the prequels was disappointing to say the least. Still, that doesn’t mean we aren’t eager for more of him.

Like Darth Maul, Windu is one of the few specialists in the seventh form of lightsaber, known for their more aggressive and unpredictable fighting styles. Seeing that purple saber back in action again would be enough of a reason to give him his own film, don’t you think?

Not to mention the fact that a spinoff could also explore Windu’s adventures prior to or between the prequels, as well as the hierarchy of the Jedi Order, and give audiences a better look at the Jedi as an army of galactic peacekeepers, which, thanks to Order 66, we don’t get to see a lot of.

But let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves. For now, we can all look forward to Solo: A Star Wars Story kicking off its theatrical run this week and both Boba Fett and Obi-Wan receiving films of their own in the not too distant future. Beyond that? Well, we can’t say for sure, but the possibilities are almost endless.
