Having just confirmed the title of his third Guardians Of The Galaxy feature – spoilers: it’s Vol. 3 – it would seem that James Gunn is busy preparing an additional MCU installment, and it’ll be a crossover film for the ages.
Earlier today, the director announced via Twitter that he finally saw Deadpool 2 this weekend, which, of course, he loved. Now, I know what you’re thinking, Marvel Studios and Marvel Entertainment congratulating one another isn’t exactly a perspective-shattering revelation, but what followed certainly is cause for celebration.
In response to Gunn’s tweet, Wade Wilson himself, Ryan Reynolds, upon graciously receiving the filmmaker’s compliment, proposed that his foul-mouthed mercenary and the irreverent Guardians – well, what’s left of them – collaborate on a motion picture in the future.

Granted, we may be ever so slightly getting ahead of ourselves, but really, can you blame us? While most social media exchanges like this prove to be nothing more than an empty gesture, a crossover between Deadpool and the Guardians of the Galaxy could very well come to fruition, at one point or another, thanks to corporate greed.
As you surely know, The Walt Disney Company is looking to purchase 21st Century Fox, and amongst the intellectual properties owned by the latter are several Marvel Characters, such as Deadpool, the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men. Therefore, a merger would allow Marvel Studios, now a Disney subsidiary, unrestricted access to the characters and freedom to include the mutants in their cinematic universe. Which means that a Guardians of the Galaxy and Deadpool crossover would, at the very least, be a distinct possibility.
