While it was a very slow burning show that required a great deal of patience to get through, I really liked the first season of Boardwalk Empire. A very evocative and daring show that beautifully recreated the 1920’s Prohibition era in extreme detail and also contained some fantastic character turns that gave me enough interest to commit to a second season, which is coming in a few weeks time.
This new trailer, which has recently been released, shows exactly why the show has become the flagship series for HBO. It looks to go into some really dark areas as the ex-allies of protagonist Nucky Thompson get ready to stab him in the back and get rid of the elected mayor of Atlantic City. There is also the interesting inclusion of the Ku Klux Klan, and I can’t wait to see how they get involved in the narrative.
The regular cast which includes Steve Buscemi, Kelly Macdonald, Michael Shannon, Michael Pitt, Michael K. Williams and Stephen Graham have returned for Season 2. The show comes from Terence Winter, who was a part of The Sopranos writing team and it is over seen by executive producers Martin Scorsese, Mark Wahlberg and Tim Van Patten.
Boardwalk Empire Season 2 returns on September 25th on HBO. Watch the trailer below.
