Morbius the Living Vampire Movie

New Plot Details For Sony’s Spider-Man Spinoff Morbius The Living Vampire Surface

Though Tom Holland's Peter Parker is part of the MCU, Sony's working on its own Spider-Man spinoff universe, with multiple movies based on the wall-crawler's foes coming down the pipeline. Tom Hardy's Venom is the first out the door, with Silver & Black and Nightwatch in development, too. Not to mention standalones for Kraven and Mysterio being touted as well.

Last but not least, of course, there’s also a Morbius the Living Vampire film coming our way, and thanks to That Hashtag Show, we now have a logline for the pic which gives us a good idea as to what approach Sony’s taking with the character. It’s not much, but it does, at the very least, seem to indicate that the spinoff will be very faithful to the comics.

Check it out below:

“Horror action story of a scientist who, in trying to find a cure for a rare blood disease, accidentally transformed himself into a living vampire who, though disgusted by his own bloodlust, chooses to prey upon criminals he deems unworthy of life.”

Morbius the Living Vampire isn’t one of Spidey’s more well known adversaries, but he’s been a fixture of the comics since the 1970s. As with many of the hero’s rogues gallery, his transformation occurred to due a scientific mishap – which is something that’ll apparently be retained for the movie, instead of simplifying things by making him a regular creature of the night.

It’s also interesting to note that Sony wants to make the Morbius film a “horror action story.” In recent years, the superhero genre hasn’t much gone in for a horror feel, but it seems that the idea’s making a comeback. Fox is working on The New Mutants, which combines X-Men goodness with a creepy haunted asylum story, while Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige has said that he’s open to a horror-infused movie in the MCU.

As we’ve learned the hard way by now, though, it’s best not to get too excited for cinematic universes until the first pic has proven to be a success. And before Morbius the Living Vampire and all the rest of them can arrive, Venom has to prove itself when it slithers into cinemas on October 5th.
