Buffy The Vampire Slayer Star Says Nobody Wants A Reboot

Joss Whedon's magnum opus Buffy the Vampire Slayer hasn't been on the air for 15 years, but there's always talk of it coming back in some form. Obviously, what fans would really love is for the original cast and creative team to reconvene and make more of the same quality of the original series. However, in this age of TV reboots, such as The CW's similarly supernatural Charmed, a complete redo of the concept could come about instead.

Joss Whedon’s magnum opus Buffy the Vampire Slayer hasn’t been on the air for 15 years, but there’s always talk of it coming back in some form. Obviously, what fans would really love is for the original cast and creative team to reconvene and make more of the same quality of the original series. However, in this age of TV reboots, such as The CW’s similarly supernatural Charmed, a complete redo of the concept could come about instead.

According to one cast member of the beloved show, though, this isn’t something that would be supported by the majority of Buffy‘s fanbase. Clare Kramer played one of the most popular villains on the series, Glory AKA Glorificus – a demonic goddess trapped in human form who was the big bad of season 5. While speaking to news.com.au, the actress was adamant that  “nobody wants” a Buffy reboot, saying:

No! Nobody wants it. I think people are interested in what is happening with it but I don’t think true Buffy fans want it unless it’s with the original cast, which I don’t think will happen.”

Kramer’s probably right about the backlash a Buffy reboot with a fresh cast would receive. Take Charmed‘s reboot, for example – even the former stars of the show have blasted the marketing for the new series. In fact, back in 2010, things seemed to be really heating up for a Buffy movie, but due to negative comments from Whedon and a few others, it never materialized.

Thankfully, it seems that nowadays, Fox is happy to wait for the show’s creator to approve of a new versionChairman Gary Newman admitted recently that it’s “ripe” for a comeback, but said that he deferred to Whedon and wouldn’t proceed on any plans without him. “When Joss decides it’s time, we’ll do it” he said.

Tell us, do you agree with Clare Kramer that Buffy the Vampire Slayer should be left alone? Or would you be interested in a reboot? Have your say in the comments section down below.
