Here’s What Andy Serkis Could Look Like As The Penguin In The Batman

Recently, reports claimed that director Matt Reeves is looking to cast classic supervillain the Penguin as the main antagonist of his upcoming DC pic The Batman. Likewise, Reeves' former Planet of the Apes collaborator Andy Serkis said that he'd love to work with the filmmaker again on the Dark Knight solo outing. It doesn't take much, then, to imagine that Serkis could be the perfect candidate to play Oswald Cobblepot.

In case you’re still not convinced, though, fan artist Boss Logic has whipped up a look at what the actor could appear like in character as the Gotham City crime boss. He’s gone for an interesting design, too, somewhere between Danny DeVito’s grotesque version from Batman Returns and the slightly more grounded take from the Arkham video games.

Serkis might not be a performer fans would automatically jump to as a great choice to play the Penguin, as the character is typically portrayed as someone with a rounder physique than him. However, we’re all well aware that he can totally transform himself for a role, as with Gollum in the Middle-earth saga. Granted, that was done with the magic of motion capture technology, but he could likely play someone just as monstrous with some prosthetics in place of CGI.

If you’re in doubt that Serkis can portray a great supervillain, just look at his scenery-chewing performance as Ulysses Klaue in Black Panther – even director Ryan Coogler regrets killing him off over the course of the movie. Seeing as that’s happened, though, the actor is now free to switch over to the DC Extended Universe. That is, if Josh Gad doesn’t have the role of the Penguin in the bag just yet.
