If you’re thinking of robbing someone, here’s a tip for you: first of all, don’t. Secondly, certainly don’t attempt it mere meters from where a renowned crime fighter spends large amounts of his time. But these handy tips are too little, too late for the four muggers who jumped a Deliveroo driver, only to come a cropper when Avengers: Infinity War star Benedict Cumberbatch intervened.
When the four assailants struck the delivery cyclist over the head with a bottle, Doctor Strange himself materialized from within a time portal (taxi) and cast the Bolts of Bedevilment spell (shouted loudly to “leave him alone”), dodged the villains’ punches (for real) and chased them from the scene. Speaking to The Sun, the sometimes Stephen Strange said, “I did it out of, well, I had to, you know.”
What makes the story even more extraordinary is that it all went down just a stone’s throw from Baker Street, the actual address where the fictional detective Sherlock Holmes lived. Of course, Cumberbatch first found fame in the BBC’s hit Sherlock series in the titular role.
The man driving the taxi for the actor and his wife, Sophie Hunter, is named Manuel Dias and he recalled the events for The Sun as follows:
“Benedict was courageous, brave and selfless,” Dias said, employing the rule of three. “If he hadn’t stepped in, the cyclist could have been seriously injured. Here was Sherlock Holmes fighting off four attackers just round the corner from Baker Street. He stood there instructing them in the street, shouting, ‘Leave him alone’.”
It’s encouraging to hear that Benedict Cumberbatch is not only a hero on screen, but on the street, too. Now, if under his Doctor Strange guise, he could just sort out this whole Thanos mess from Avengers: Infinity War and bring Groot back, it would be greatly appreciated.
