Return To Haddonfield With First Trailer For Blumhouse’s Halloween

As promised, the first trailer for the Halloween reboot/sequel set to arrive in October has debuted, promising a terrifying return to Haddonfield.

“I’ve waited for him…”

Capping off a busy, busy week on the new trailer front – Suspiria, Bumblebee and Disney’s Wreck-It Ralph sequel, to name but three… – Blumhouse has now unleashed the first preview for Halloween, and it’s every bit as nostalgic as we’d come to expect.

Front and center for this one is Jamie Lee Curtis, whose Laurie Strode (AKA the original Scream Queen) has spent the past 40 years hoping – praying – that Michael Myers would escape confinement. Why, you ask? So she could have the privilege of killing Myers herself, and that’s exactly what Laurie plans to do once The Shape inevitably breaks free, and the shit begins hurling towards the fan.

This teaser trailer also does a fantastic job of re-introducing Myers after all these years, and if the shot of Haddonfield’s living, breathing nightmare slipping back into his mask doesn’t give you chills, we don’t know what will.

Featuring a script co-written by Danny McBride, the Halloween of 2018 will act a direct continuation of the John Carpenter classic in that it takes place 40 years after the original and, in doing so, ignores all other installments in the admittedly convoluted film franchise. It’s set to bring the gang back together, too, for what promises to be a trip down memory line, with director David Gordon Green going back to basics and re-visiting the roots of the series.

That means Nick Castle is back in the shoes of Michael Myers – albeit briefly, given he’ll leverage the character’s screen time with James Jude Courtney – and Laurie Strode is gearing up for her “final confrontation” with the masked serial killer. Or so says the official Halloween synopsis, which reads as so:

Jamie Lee Curtis returns to her iconic role as Laurie Strode, who comes to her final confrontation with Michael Myers, the masked figure who has haunted her since she narrowly escaped his killing spree on Halloween night four decades ago.

The one. The only. The classic! Halloween haunts Haddonfield (and our dreams!) on October 19th. Cue Carpenter’s shrill theme music…
