Is This How Ant-Man And The Wasp Connects To Avengers 4?

For the most part, it sounds like Ant-Man and the Wasp won't tie into Avengers: Infinity War too directly. Apart from Scott Lang not even featuring in the recent blockbuster, the sequel to the 2015 origin story will be set back in the aftermath of Captain America: Civil War in 2016. Just because it's mostly standalone, though, that doesn't mean it won't also set up Avengers 4 in some fashion.

For exactly how it might do this, the recent Ant-Man and the Wasp trailer gave us our best look yet at the Ghost, the enigmatic villain who Scott and Hope Van Dyne will come up against in the movie. It revealed that the thief’s stolen Hank Pym’s technology which allows her to tap into the Quantum Realm, thereby giving her the ability to phase in and out of reality.

You may remember that the Quantum Realm was introduced in Ant-Man as an inter-dimensional space that can be entered if you shrink down to a sub-atomic size. It was revealed during the film that Janet Van Dyne, the original Wasp, was marooned in the Realm, with Scott ending up there in the climax.

Here’s how Pym describes it:

“It means that you would enter a reality where all concepts of time and space become irrelevant as you shrink for all eternity. Everything that you know, and love, gone forever.”

The part of this quote that might suggest the dimension will play a major part in Avengers 4 is the fact that time is apparently irrelevant there. As we all know by now, the big theory about the upcoming finale to the MCU as we know it is that it’ll involve time travel, with set photos suggesting that Iron Man, Ant-Man and more will revisit past movies. Presumably in a bid to stop Thanos from ever collecting in the Infinity Stones in the first place.

It makes sense, then, if the Quantum Realm turns out to be the key ingredient in figuring out a way to travel through time. Especially as the circular doo-dads that the heroes have mounted on their wrists in some Avengers 4 set snaps resemble the round embellishments that adorn the Ghost’s costume, further suggesting that they’re powered by similar tech.
