Love it or loathe it, it’s fair to say that Justice League didn’t light up the worldwide box office in the way Warner Bros. would have hoped.
Building on the groundwork laid during Man of Steel, Batman V Superman and, to a lesser extent, Suicide Squad, Zack Snyder’s DC team-up movie struggled to leave much of an impression on the wider moviegoing audience, and its box office numbers suffered as a result.
This all came after a long and meandering production cycle, during which time Snyder vacated the director’s chair for Joss Whedon, the two-time Avengers filmmaker who was brought on board at the 11th hour in order to oversee extensive reshoots. But it’s now being claimed that Warner Bros. also took issue with Whedon’s contribution, as CBM’s latest report suggests that, after firing Snyder from his post, the Powers That Be also cut ties with Joss Whedon, primarily due to his handling of Diana Prince.

It’s said that Patty Jenkins took issue with much of what the filmmaker decided to do with Wonder Woman in Justice League and made it clear that she didn’t want him anywhere near anything she would be working on.
The fallout from Justice League was felt far and wide, too, given Joss Whedon was also removed from Warner’s long-in-the-making Batgirl solo movie, which has since appointed Christina Hodson (Bumblebee: The Movie) on script duties.
Providing these allegations are true, it seems Warner Bros. chose to cease its collaborations with both Snyder and Whedon soon after Justice League fell flat, not to mention that the latter’s handling of Wonder Woman didn’t sit well with Patty Jenkins, who has since become a power player of the DCEU after the meteoric success of Diana’s solo adventure. She’ll be back next year, too, what with Wonder Woman 2 pegged for November of 2019.
