Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 Will Be “Very, Very Different,” According To James Gunn

It’s expected to get the ball rolling in January of 2019 and is said to be a “freaking amazing” expansion of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and now, James Gunn himself has gone on record to say that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be “very, very different” from what has come before.

Over on Facebook (h/t Screen Rant), the fan-favorite director solicited some questions pertaining to Guardians 3 and his creative process, in general, which is now in full swing. As a matter of fact, Gunn is likely writing and composing his third volume as you read this, and while answering all sorts of curious queries, the filmmaker assured budding fans that the Marvel threequel won’t be a clone of its predecessors. Far from it, in fact.

It’s very, very, very different. Very different, but I won’t say how! You’ll have to wait to see the movie, it’s a long time away.

With a tentative May 2020 release window in place, it’s far too early for James Gunn to divulge any details from the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 script, but we know it’ll signal the end of Star-Lord’s cosmic journey, and that its story will likely be affected by the fallout of Avengers: Infinity War.

Without straying too far into spoiler territory, the Mad Titan’s actions undoubtedly had a marked effect on the MCU, and that’s before we even factor the so-far untitled Avengers 4 into the equation. In short, there are still a lot of questions to be answered, but in the meantime, Marvel fans can continue to look forward to Ant-Man and the Wasp, safe in the knowledge that James Gunn is hard at work on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and, perhaps most exciting of all, giving it a certain je ne sais quoi.
