Speaking of which, it’s now been revealed that the role once tackled in live action by Emma Stone will here be voiced by singer/actress Hailee Steinfeld. While many will recognize the 21-year-old from her part in the Pitch Perfect sequels, Steinfeld’s also earned awards and respect for her excellent turns in True Grit and The Edge of Seventeen, making this a hard casting choice to dispute.

Though Stacy’s usually thought of as the ill-fated first love of Peter Parker, the Earth-65 timeline from the comics posits an alternative reality in which she’s the one bitten by a radioactive spider, turning her into Spider-Woman, aka Spider-Gwen. It’s a story that leads into Parker’s own tragic death after he transforms into the Lizard in an effort to be more like her.

Fortunately, this doesn’t look to be how things will go for Into the Spider-Verse’s Parker (Jake Johnson), who seems to be feeling a little better than his equivalent in the MCU as he trains Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) to be the next Spider-Man.

Producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller of The LEGO Movie fame are certainly enthusiastic about the team they’ve assembled to bring the film to life and recently said the following about their cast:

We are lucky to have such an amazing cast of funny, genuine creative souls to populate the Spider-verse. They have generous minds and great big hearts. And they have very talented throats. Which is where their delightful voices come from.

We can’t wait for the world to see Miles Morales on the big screen. He’s such a fun and exciting new character, and telling his story through a revolutionary visual style makes for a totally fresh cinematic experience that, if we may say so, is freaking amazing.

The world will see Miles, Spider-Gwen and the rest when Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse lands in theaters on December 14th, 2018, just one week before the release of Steinfeld’s other major franchise debut in Transformers spinoff Bumblebee – which also got a new trailer recently.
