As fans of comedies like Trading Places and A Fish Called Wanda will know, there’s a lot more to the forty-year career of Jamie Lee Curtis than her involvement in the Halloween series. Still, given the impact that the original 1978 slasher movie had on the horror genre and the continuing popularity of the franchise, it’s likely that the actress’ big screen debut as famed scream queen Laurie Strode will always be the most celebrated moment in her varied and extensive filmography.
It’s a point that Curtis herself wouldn’t dispute as she reflects on her time playing the most frequent target of serial killer Michael Myers, saying the following recently:
I recognize that it will be my biggest contribution. Despite writing books for children, all of my advocacy, all of my politics, all of my own personal journey, my legacy will be Halloween.
It’s hard to imagine that Curtis is too bothered by this legacy, seeing how she’s about to reprise the role of Strode for the fifth time in the upcoming Halloween from director David Gordon Green. Though her character was killed off at the start of 2002’s Resurrection, the new film looks to be ignoring everything that’s happened in the series since the first installment, meaning that the franchise’s favorite heroine is alive and back to face down the knife-wielding Myers one last time.
She’ll be a lot more prepared for him than she was the first time, too, as the forthcoming Blumhouse production will catch up with Strode in her later years as a hardened mother and grandmother who’s put plans in place for Michael’s long-awaited escape from prison.
You’ll be able to see Laurie Strode in action for the first time in 16 years when Halloween hits cinemas October 19th, but before that, stay tuned for the film’s first trailer dropping this Friday.
