The Girl In The Spider’s Web Trailer Continues The Story Of Lisbeth Salander

As expected, Sony has debuted the very first trailer for Fede Alvarez's The Girl in the Spider's Web, which continues the story of Lisbeth Salander.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo series has had a bit of a bumpy ride over on this side of the pond. Though the trilogy was a huge hit overseas when it was adapted for the big screen, it didn’t find the same success back in 2011 when director David Fincher remade it.

The movie under-performed at the box office big time and the follow-up (thought to be The Girl Who Played with Fire) spiraled down into development hell. Further problems behind the scenes with the various filmmakers and producers complicated the process even more and all hope seemed to be lost for a sequel.

Fast-forward to last year, when we learned that Sony had scrapped Played With Fire and instead chose to reboot the property, with director Fede Alvarez in charge and the fourth installment in the book series, The Girl in the Spider’s Web, acting as the source material. Set to hit theaters later this year, Claire Foy was chosen to play the role of Lisbeth Salander, replacing Rooney Mara, who brought the character to life in Fincher’s film, and we now have our very first look at the pic thanks to the trailer up above.

The Girl in the Spider's Web Trailer

Given that the man behind the camera is Mr. Alvarez, best known for horror hits like the Evil Dead remake and Don’t Breathe, it’s not too surprising to see Spider’s Web adopt a dark and chilling tone, more so than its predecessors even. We’re certainly digging it, though, and Foy in the lead role seems like a very inspired casting choice, with the actress completely unrecognizable to those who may know her from The Crown. All in all, it’s a promising first trailer that has us intrigued to see more.

The Girl In The Spider’s Web is currently set for a release on October 19th and along with Foy it also stars Lakeith Stanfield, Sylvia Hoeks and Sverrir Gudnason, among others.
