Carrie Fisher’s Brother Says She Regretted Revealing Her Affair With Harrison Ford

George Lucas is a man of many talents, but probably one of his least heralded is assembling such a great cast of relative unknowns in the Original Trilogy. Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher went on to become witty, personable and charismatic actors and celebrities, and they all miraculously managed to avoid lapsing into egotistical pretentiousness. So it was with no small amount of surprise that the world learned in 2016 that Fisher and the then-married Ford had a secret affair during the production of Star Wars.

The revelation came in her memoir The Princess Diarist, which was written in her frank, outspoken tell-all style that made her previous books Wishful Drinking and Postcards from the Edge such hits. Now though, her brother, Todd Fisher, has said that in her last days she regretted revealing this story to the public and thought that she should have kept it between herself and Ford. Apparently, her late mother Debbie Reynolds agreed and at the time urged Fisher to keep the story under wraps.

This comes courtesy of Todd’s own memoir, My Girls: A Lifetime With Carrie and Debbie (the family certainly has a talent for memoirs) which was released this week. According to the book, Reynolds didn’t know anything about the affair until Fisher wrote about it, and tried to convince her that the passage should be deleted. Fisher stood firm, though, her opinion appearing to shift only when she was quizzed about it on The Graham Norton Show and seemed to feel guilt for exposing Ford without informing him in advance.

While Carrie Fisher sadly won’t be appearing in Star Wars: Episode IX (unless they try for some ill-advised CGI version of Leia), she still has one final on-screen role in the can – the upcoming fantasy film Wonderwell. It sounds like a female-orientated version of Big, where a 12-year-old girl gets a chance to grow up immediately and become a fashion and modeling star. As you can probably tell, it likely won’t win any awards, but hey, in my books, any Fisher performance is worth checking out.
