After the senses-pummeling, prediction-confounding, record-breaking Avengers: Infinity War, Ant-Man and The Wasp kind of feels like an afterthought at this point. Though its trailers are entertaining enough, a few car chases and a villain who can walk through walls just seems a teeny bit tame after what we recently went through with Thanos. But then again, perhaps some light-hearted MCU action with considerably smaller (pun intended) stakes is exactly the kind of palette cleanser we all need right now?
In any case, it certainly looks like the sequel will deliver that, as embedded above and below you’ll find two new promos for Ant-Man and the Wasp, which offer up some fresh footage that paints a promising picture of what’s to come next month. One of the TV spots even has Scott boasting that he’s an Avenger now, something which he’s clearly very proud about.
It’s a good thing he’s got that confidence boost, too, as his dangerous foray into the Quantum Realm in the last film allowed for another Marvel villain (read: Hannah John-Kamen’s Ghost) to slip out between the cracks, leaving Ant-Man with little choice but to team up with Hank and Hope Pym once more.
Again, the stakes are a little lower than, say, Avengers: Infinity War, but after so much time spent obsessing over Thanos and the Infinity Stones, the MCU could do with an injection of good old-fashioned fun and so far, we’re feeling quietly confident that Peyton Reed will be able to offer up an enjoyable sequel that can stand side by side with the original.
Said to be 118 minutes in length and every bit as fun and zany as its predecessor, Ant-Man and the Wasp is locked in for a U.S. debut on July 6th, with viewers across the pond expected to welcome the itsy-bitsy blockbuster into theaters four weeks after the fact. That opens up a potentially dangerous window for spoilers, so if you happen to be located in the United Kingdom, we advise you to tread lightly.
