Jason Momoa in Aquaman

First Aquaman Trailer Premieres At CineEurope, Expected Online Soon

Last week, director James Wan disclosed that the first trailer for Aquaman is imminent. Unfortunately, the Australian filmmaker was mum as to a specific date and time, but it would appear that the horror maestro is a man of his word. And that's because according to various sources, it was shown during Warner Bros.' CineEurope presentation earlier today, with an online debut expected to follow shortly.

Written by Will Beall (Venom) and former DC Entertainment president and chief creative officer, Geoff Johns, Aquaman is the sole DCEU entry scheduled for release in 2018 and the sixth installment in the franchise overall. Apart from star Jason Momoa sharing a behind the scenes look at production though, and a piece of promo art from the Licensing Expo in Las Vegas, updates have been, understandably, few and far between regarding Wan’s subaquatic blockbuster, and given the current state of DC cinema, that shouldn’t be all that surprising.

Undeniably, Aquaman is one of the more hotly-anticipated features to hit the big screen in 2018. That said, it will be the first for DC and Warner Bros. following the catastrophic release of Justice League. Seeing as the solo venture will proceed several box office mammoths, including a pair of MCU pics that toppled the nine zero plateau this year, Black Panther ($1.34B) and Avengers: Infinity War ($1.99B), a misstep here could very well prove fatal, meaning the studio can’t afford to have the film be anything but a smash hit.

Believed to explore the rich history of Arthur Curry and his reluctance to accept the role of King, Aquaman stars Momoa as the titular hero, Amber Heard as Mera, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Nicole Kidman as Queen Atlanna and Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko. Look for it to swim into theaters on December 21st.
