Is Marvel About To Bring Avengers 4 Forward To April 2019?

A new CineEurope commentary from The Hollywood Reporter strongly suggests that the Avengers 4 release date will be brought forward to April 2019, just like Infinity War before it.

Cast your mind back to the beginning of March, when the entire industry was still reeling from Ryan Coogler’s standalone Black Panther movie, and you’ll no doubt remember Marvel’s carefully calculated decision to shift the worldwide release date of Avengers: Infinity War forward into April – a full seven days earlier than initially expected.

It was a strategic move on the studio’s part, as it helped mitigate the outbreak of spoilers by ensuring that audiences across the world – save for Russia and China – were able to lay eyes on Infinity War during the same weekend.

And at least based on THR’s latest report from CineEurope, the Powers That Be may well call upon a similar tactic for the launch of Avengers 4. It’s currently scheduled to arrive on May 3rd, 2019, but The Hollywood Reporter has it listed for “April 2019.” See for yourself:

Kevin Feige served up some exclusive glimpses of the untitled fourth Avengers film, due for release in April 2019, alongside a special early look at Brie Larson as Captain Marvel, set to land in March 2019.

April 2019, you say? Before we get carried away, there’s a very good chance that this is nothing more than an innocuous typo from The Hollywood Reporter, as Infinity War‘s surprise shift to April has likely thrown some people off.

Besides, as things stand, Captain Marvel is locked in for March 8th, 2019, and we imagine Kevin Feige and Co. will want to open up some breathing space between the two 2019 blockbusters, lest they risk overwhelming the audience. Or, worse, prompting fears of franchise fatigue.

Part of Solo‘s failure at the global box office is being attributed to the spinoff’s close proximity to Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and while Marvel tends to be in a league of its own when it comes to the financials, we struggle to imagine a scenario where Avengers 4 arrives less than seven weeks after Captain Marvel. But hey, we could be wrong!
