“It’s about damn time.”
That’s Evangeline Lilly there, whose Hope Van Dyne finally gets her wings at the tail-end of Marvel’s original Ant-Man movie. And after three years and two full-blown MCU wars (one Civil, the other Infinite), Lilly’s heroine is about to take center stage for Ant-Man and the Wasp, as evidenced by today’s new promo for the hotly-anticipated sequel.
At only 10 seconds in length, it’s an admittedly brief preview of Ant-Man and the Wasp, and one that’s likely been earmarked as a TV spot to drum up excitement for Marvel’s third and final release of 2018. It’ll make its Stateside debut on July 6th, before expanding to numerous territories across the globe. But it’s bad news for those in the United Kingdom.
Word is the Powers That Be pushed Ant-Man and the Wasp‘s UK release in order to avoid a clash with the World Cup, the quadrennial football tournament that’s scheduled to kick off in Russia later today and stretch right through until July 15th.
It’s a disappointing blow for Marvel fans uninterested by the World Cup and its global celebrations – Evangeline Lilly included, who told Empire Magazine that she’s “pissed off” by the sequel’s late release.
They always do that. Then what happens is people just pirate the movie and they see it in the worst way possible, like some shitty version online, instead of going to a theater. They go in the end, but I don’t like that staggering. I’m really going to get to the bottom of this for you. I’m as pissed off about it as you are.
Buoyed a stellar cast and the hype leftover from Infinity War, Ant-Man and the Wasp is expected to make a beeline for theaters on July 6th – save for the United Kingdom, where the Peyton Reed-directed sequel isn’t due to arrive until August 3rd, 28 days after the fact.
