Ant-Man and the Wasp has crawled early tracking and already, the Marvel sequel is causing quite the buzz.
The Hollywood Reporter told us earlier today that if pre-release surveys are any indication – which they usually are – Peyton Reed’s highly anticipated sequel is destined for a $75M opening weekend in North America. That’s notably higher than that of the original Ant-Man, which opened to around $57M three years ago on its journey to $519M worldwide.
That tells us the pint-sized pic may break $600M at the global box office when all is said and done, but it’s far too soon to be talking about final tallies considering Ant-Man and the Wasp is yet to stage its theatrical debut. Once it does, though, Marvel will surely be hoping fans seek it out in IMAX and here to help encourage them is Paul Rudd, who can be seen in the promo above hyping up the fact that the film will be released in the enhanced format.
It’s an admittedly brief video and one that doesn’t show us any actual footage from the movie itself, but it’s still enough to drum up excitement for Marvel’s third and final release of 2018, which makes its Stateside debut on July 6th, before expanding to numerous territories across the globe. But it’s bad news for those in the United Kingdom.
Word is the Powers That Be pushed Ant-Man and the Wasp‘s UK release in order to avoid a clash with the World Cup, the quadrennial football tournament that’s scheduled to kick off in Russia later today and stretch right through until July 15th. Still, it’ll only be a month or so delayed in that region and after the Afrocentric action of Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War and its own Thanopocalypse, we could all do with some old-fashioned heist hijinks. And in that respect, Ant-Man and the Wasp looks set to deliver in spades.
