Avengers: Endgame Writers Reveal The One Villain They Wanted In The MCU

Writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely have been lucky enough to bring an enormous amount of awesome Marvel comics characters to the big screen in their four MCU movies released to date - that's all three Captain America films and Avengers: Infinity War, to be specific, with Avengers 4 also on the way. However, there are only so many characters you can fit in one film and, as such, there've been some that have sadly been left on the cutting room floor.

Writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely have been lucky enough to bring an enormous amount of awesome Marvel comics characters to the big screen in their four MCU movies released to date – that’s all three Captain America films and Avengers: Infinity War, to be specific, with Avengers 4 also on the way. However, there are only so many characters you can fit in one film and, as such, there’ve been some that have sadly been left on the cutting room floor.

While speaking with Kevin Smith on his podcast, the conversation turned towards the heroes/villains they always wanted to put into one of their Marvel movies. McFeely cited Armin Zola – as played by Toby Jones in The First Avenger and The Winter Soldier  as an example, while Markus admitted that there are some that haven’t been able to fit into the scope of the films.

In particular, he revealed that he’d love to get M.O.D.O.K. in the MCU. For those not familiar with the supervillain, M.O.D.O.K (Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing) is the leader of A.I.M. who takes the form of a giant head housed in a robot body. He’s a fairly outlandish character, then, which is why it proved hard to work him into their scripts.

“I’ve wanted to put M.O.D.O.K. in, and it’s very hard to go ‘here’s the supporting character the giant head’.’ And then we’re going to get on with the story. We just came to him for information. Like you kind of have to design the whole movie around the guy with the giant head.”

That said, Markus did go on to reveal that he’s a big fan of the villain and believes that, if handled correctly, he could turn out to be a “terrifying” foe for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes to face.

“I have love for M.O.D.O.K. and I still think properly done he’d be terrifying. Like you look all the way down the hall and like this huge head comes around the corner and starts coming and…oh, it would be awesome.”

Interestingly, Peter Dinklage was rumored to be playing M.O.D.O.K. in Avengers: Infinity War, though in the end it turned out he was playing Eitri, the king of the dwarves of Nidavelir. We’re up for Dinklage to take on dual roles in the MCU, however, as he’d still be a good choice for the character if he ever makes it to the screen in Phase Four.
