Despite Supergirl having one episode remaining in its third season, we’re already getting an idea of how the show’s fourth year will take shape. Yes, we still have what appears to be a whopper of a finale to deal with, but some recent casting news is sure to fuel speculation for months to come.
First, let’s talk about Brainiac 5, as you’re going to be seeing a whole lot more of him beginning this October, for Jesse Rath has been freshly promoted to series regular status, as TV Line reports. Already, we’ve learned that he’ll be showing up in next week’s season finale via some advance promo images, so it’ll be interesting to see if his Legion of Superheroes cohorts Mon-El and Imra will be sticking around for more action come fall. Suffice it to say, all eyes will be on “Battles Lost and Won” once it’s showtime.
But as one door opens, another closes…well, kind of.
You see, Jeremy Jordan, who’s played Winn Schott since the pilot episode aired, will take on a more limited role in season 4, the news of which also comes courtesy of TV Line. As it turns out, executive producers Robert Rovner and Jessica Queller have told the outlet that Winn will soon be “fulfilling his full potential,” and that the upcoming finale will hint at what lies ahead for him.
If we were to hazard a guess, Jordan may be gradually phased out similar to how Floriana Lima was earlier in season 3. If you’ll recall, she was a series regular during season 2 but was eventually written off the show. Right now, it’s very easy to assume something comparable is in store for Kara’s bestie.
Considering that Rovner and Queller said they’re “not saying goodbye to Winn at all,” and that they’re “already breaking big stories for him right now for the fall,” Jordan will likely have the door left open for more return appearances, while he’s free to explore other creative endeavors.
All will be revealed when the Supergirl season finale airs this Monday night on The CW, so be sure to tune in.
