It’s been a strange 48 hours in the Star Wars camp.
First came Collider’s scoop that Lucasfilm had pumped the brakes on its Anthology series, with Obi-Wan Kenobi and the Boba Fett movies being among those affected. And now, things have veered into full-blown absurdity, as a group of online Star Wars fans have launched a campaign to remake The Last Jedi (no, really), sending the Internet into a tailspin of questions, memes, and genuine confusion.
Over on Twitter, an account by the name of ‘Remake The Last Jedi’ – how very appropriate – claims to have a “team of producers” at work crowdfunding a possible remake of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, a film that came out only six months ago and has since grossed $1.3 billion at the worldwide box office. There’s also the small matter of U.S. copyright law to consider, not to mention the fact that Disney is arguably one of the biggest conglomerates on the planet. So, yeah, like we said, a strange 48 hours…
Our team of producers is offering to cover the budget for a remake of The Last Jedi in order to save Star Wars. Share this and spread the word to let @RobertIger & @Disney know you want this! This isn't a joke, we're ready to have the convo now! #RemakeTheLastJedi #StarWars

It hasn’t taken long for Twitter to revel in the ridiculous, beginning with a Tweet from The Last Jedi‘s director, Rian Johnson, baiting online trolls to give it their best shot. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 helmer James Gunn also laughed off the group’s claims with a Tweet of his own, both of which are embedded below.

This is merely the latest development in a series of equally ridiculous post-Last Jedi stories, after a 46-minute cut of the movie was released back in January. Oh, and did we mention it removed every single woman from the frame? Again, ridiculous.
Kelly Marie Tran was also a victim of sustained online harassment – so much so, in fact, that the Star Wars: The Last Jedi actress deleted all her social media accounts earlier this month. It was a dark day for the fanbase, and it seems things may get worse before they get better.
