Spider-Man Spinoff Silver & Black Delayed Again As Production Moves To 2019

Venom's inching closer to its theatrical release now but it seems Sony's next Spider-Man-less spinoff has hit a stumbling block. Silver & Black, starring femme fatale anti-heroes Silver Sable and Black Cat, did seem to be going full steam ahead last year when Gina Prince-Bythewood was quickly hired as director. However, it 's been hit by a series of setbacks in the past few months and now there's yet another.

Omega Underground’s reporting that they’ve heard Silver & Black is no longer expected to start production in late 2018. Due to the script undergoing rewrites, the film’s now set to go before the cameras in 2019. This is a big change in plan from Sony’s original timeline, as S&B was initially said to be released in February 2019 before being dropped when production was delayed for the first time.

The script in question is being penned by Christopher Yost, a writer who has a long history of working on Marvel comic book adaptations. On the big screen, he’s been credited for both Thor: The Dark World and Thor: Ragnarok and on TV, he helmed popular animated series Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. So, at the very least, we can rest easy knowing the screenplay’s in good hands.

As fans will know, Silver & Black is just the tip of the iceberg of what Sony has planned for their own corner of the Marvel universe. Solo movies for Spider-Man villains we can confirm to be in the works include Mysterio, Kraven and Morbius, the Living Vampire, while just yesterday, another project was revealed and it’ll feature none other than Cindy Moon AKA Silk, the girl bitten by the same radioactive spider as Peter Parker.

The first real test for the franchise, though, will occur when Venom hits theaters this October. After that, we’ll have a much better idea of what shape this new cinematic universe might take.
