Tom Holland Explains How He Found Out Spidey Would Die In Avengers: Infinity War

It was arguably the moment that no one saw coming in Avengers: Infinity War. Of all the rumors that were circulating before the release of the latest MCU installment, the death of Peter Parker was not at the top of anyone’s list. Least of all Tom Holland’s.

During a panel at the ACE Comic Con in Seattle, Washington, the Spider-Man actor appeared alongside Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes) and Anthony Mackie (Falcon) to field fan questions. When grilled on the topic of whether or not he knew that he would be one of the fated few who would fall to Thanos’ snap, Holland revealed that he knew nothing of his demise until the day of the shoot.

“I knew I was gonna die when I filmed my death scene, genius. I’m kidding, I’m kidding. No, I knew I was gonna die, but only until pretty much the day I actually filmed it and that came as quite a shock when Kevin Feige takes you aside and says, ‘Now you’re dying’ and you’re ‘No, I don’t wanna go, I don’t wanna go!'”

He wasn’t the only one who was surprised, either. After an ill-fated reboot starring Andrew Garfield as your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, Tom Holland has largely been regarded as the best incarnation of the web-slinger yet, nailing his temperament, appearance and age. His unveiling in Captain America: Civil War had fans invested from the very first trailer and this was only solidified with his turn in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

With such success surely comes sequels and it’s been long known that one’s already on the way for the wall-crawler, which made Spidey’s death in Avengers: Infinity War all the more shocking. If not all the more unbelievable. Still, the feels were real and his “I don’t wanna go” line really pulls at the heartstrings, even if you’re only typing it. Sniff.
