Kevin Feige Says Spider-Man: Far From Home Has Several Meanings

Though Tom Holland took to Instagram on Saturday to tell us that there would be no new announcements this weekend for Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 – or, as we’re now calling it, Spider-Man: Far From Home – this has actually turned out to be a pretty informative couple of days for Mr Parker’s second solo outing in the MCU.

Not only did we receive confirmation that Jake Gyllenhaal will be taking on the role of the villainous Mysterio, but in that same aforementioned Instagram post, Holland also indirectly revealed the title of the upcoming movie. Of course, in the fast-moving world of Marvel fandom, every new answer spawns a fresh set of questions, and so this revelation has led to speculation on what exactly the ‘Far From Home’ subtitle could tell us about the film.

Now, producer Kevin Feige has either helped us in our quest to decode the subtext of it or made things worse, having hinted that the name, Spider-Man: Far From Home, holds multiple meanings.

“[It’s] similar [to Spider-Man: Homecoming]. I won’t say what the meanings are, but we enjoy that title because, like Homecoming, it is full of alternate meaning. And we liked continuing the ‘Home’ thing, with the little Spidey symbol in the ‘Home.’”

While Feige’s statement doesn’t exactly narrow down the theories, it’s safe to assume that on at least one level, the title applies in a literal geographical sense. The producer’s previously said that the sequel will see the web-slinger visiting various parts of the globe, with shooting taking place in London among other regions. Apparently he’s not just a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man anymore.

In any case, there’ll be plenty of time to speculate on how things will play out in Spider-Man: Far From Home before it officially kicks off Phase 4 of the MCU on July 5th, 2019. But first, you can bet that Avengers 4 will offer some vital context when it drops on May 3rd.
