Captain Marvel’s Gemma Chan Offers Sneak Peek At Her Mysterious Villain

Now that Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck have called a wrap on Captain Marvel, Humans actress Gemma Chan has offered a sneak peek at her villain, Doctor Minerva.

The standalone Captain Marvel movie reached a major milestone this weekend past; after precisely eight weeks in front of the cameras, Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck’s female-fronted spinoff has wrapped principal photography, and will now enter a lengthy post-production process as it prepares for that early 2019 release.

All of this has prompted rumors that Captain Marvel‘s first teaser trailer is imminent, though Marvel boss Kevin Feige recently called for patience, before hinting that the showreel may be with us soon after Ant-Man and the Wasp graces theaters next month.

Among the cast for this one are Jude Law, Humans star Gemma Chan and Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, the skilled Air Force pilot who finds her life flipped upside down when her DNA is fused with that of an extra-terrestrial. What follows is a quick and breathtaking transformation into the Captain Marvel we know and love, though with great power comes even greater foes to contend with.

Take Doctor Minerva (real name: Minn-Erva), as an example; she’s said to be one of the film’s primary villains, and now that shooting has come to an end, Gemma Chan (h/t CBM) has today shared a behind-the-scenes peek at her Doctor Minerva look. Feast thy eyes:

Those familiar with the Captain Marvel source material will know Minerva to be a character who sought out Captain Mar-Vell (Jude Law) for his DNA, and hoped to reproduce with him so that she may progress the Kree genetic code. Ultimately, Minn-Erva winds up with powers of her own, leading us to believe that she’ll emerge as a formidable threat for Carol Danvers when the lights go down next year.

On March 8th, Captain Marvel will make her way into theaters, and the MCU will never be the same again.
