Ant-Man Director Peyton Reed Made A Small Contribution To Avengers 4

Ant-Man and the Wasp's Peyton Reed was on-hand during the development of Avengers 4, where he helped ease Scott Lang into the superhero sequel.

Part of what makes the Marvel Cinematic Universe so damn successful is that, despite all of its many moving parts, this is a franchise that always feels like a cohesive unit. And it’s a credit to Kevin Feige and other studio brass that even now, 10 years and (almost) 20 movies into this most historic journey, the MCU continues to push the envelope.

We’ve already seen that innovation through the release of Black Panther, and while the Marvel universe still has room for improvement, this is a franchise that shows no sign of slowing down anytime soon – especially now that Avengers: Infinity War has raked in more than $2 billion worldwide.

It’s a product of Joe and Anthony Russo, the directing team behind such MCU hits as The First Avenger and Civil War. And while the Russo Brothers undoubtedly knocked Infinity War out of the park, they had a little help from Ryan Coogler and James Gunn when dealing with T’Challa and the Guardians of the Galaxy.

And for their next effort (read: Avengers 4), it seems Marvel’s double act called upon Peyton Reed for those scenes involving Scott Lang, as the Ant-Man and the Wasp helmer revealed to Screen Rant:

Yeah. There’s a lot of cross talk, which is great, you know, among directors. Even on the first movie, I had the Russos come in and look at early cuts just to see how Paul (Rudd) was playing Scott Lang to inform what they did in Civil War. And Marcus and McFeely, who are writing the Avengers movies, we all talk about what the overall arcs are going to be so everyone is in sync with all this stuff.

Continuing on, Reed admitted that he’s currently unable to divulge too much about his contribution to Avengers 4 (no surprise there), but he did stress that Ant-Man and the Wasp is a standalone movie, even if it shares DNA with the wider Marvel universe.

I can’t say much more than that or I’m going to get a Wasp dart in my neck. But yeah, that’s one of the exciting things is keeping this movie a self-contained thing but obviously being aware of how things fit into the larger universe. It’s a really fun, creative exercise.

Expect Scott Lang’s next solo adventure to hit U.S. theaters on July 6th, before Avengers 4 brings the MCU to its knees next summer.
