While Marvel Studios is busy putting a bow on Phase Three, which will take another step toward elucidation next month in the form of Peyton Reed’s Ant-Man and the Wasp, Phase Four of the MCU is slowly beginning to take shape. Late last week, leaky faucet Tom Holland let it slip that the twenty-third entry into the highest grossing franchise of all-time will be titled Spider-Man: Far From Home, and we also know that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is scheduled to fire up production in early January.
Speaking of which, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige turned in a status report the other day on the James Gunn-directed blockbuster. According to the producing vet of twenty years, things are moving along nicely, with the screenplay now complete and, like we said above, shooting set to begin in early 2019.
Scheduled for release sometime in 2020, the threequel is still in its infancy stage, of course, but with a script finished and ready to go, Gunn took to Twitter to post the below image of the screenplay with the caption, “Every bit of my heart,” alluding to the fact that he’s put every bit of himself into completing the work.

Having the entire gang – save for Rocket – erased by Thanos in Infinity War, Gunn probably had quite the obstacle to overcome while penning the treatment. Nonetheless, we’ll undoubtedly have some fun speculating how Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will play out sans Groot and company. At least until next May, when Avengers 4 is released.
Of course, there’s every chance the gang will be resurrected in time for the threequel, but as Kevin Feige said this past weekend, we’d be foolish to make any assumptions.
