Just days ago, we finally learned that the next solo film to feature one of the most recognizable superheroes in the world will indeed be titled Spider-Man: Far From Home. Not only does this mean that we can stop referring to it as “Homecoming 2,” but the reveal has also ignited a veritable brushfire online, as everyone is speculating as to what that subtitle may be referring to. Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige says there are several meanings, naturally, but we all know he’s going to play it coy for quite a while.
There is one person who’s put together their own theory though in the form of some rather cool artwork, and it comes to us via a piece that surfaced over on Reddit. Considering that it’s been tagged with “Ultraraw26,” odds are that’s the handle the artist responsible for it goes by.
Now, as you can see, Spidey can be found lying down in the ethereal plane visited by Thanos in the closing moments of Avengers: Infinity War. And though it remains to be seen if indeed Peter Parker was whisked away to that very location, it most assuredly would place him “far from home.”
In truth, I could see this panning out if the studio wishes to go in a very unexpected direction for a Spider-Man movie, but I’m sticking to my guns in saying that Avengers 4 will contain some sort of Deus ex Machina that’ll undo most of the big deaths seen in Infinity War.
Whenever this comes up in conversation, I’m quick to remind others that, back in 2017, Feige stated the wallcrawler’s next adventure will pick up moments after Avengers 4, as opposed to taking place before Infinity War like some believe:
“What I think we should focus on is this Spider-Man who started in Civil War and then has this movie [Homecoming], and then will be in the Avengers movie. And we are starting now the next one which will start a few minutes after Avengers 4 wraps as a story.”
Granted, you can argue semantics with me all day on this one, but we should probably chalk this up as an “oopsie” on Feige’s end because it’s a card I’ll never stop pulling when confronted by folks who think Marvel will really leave so many of their marquee characters in a dead state. Put simply, I think Phase Four will be business as usual.
Avengers 4 arrives in theaters on May 3, 2019, with Spider-Man: Far From Home following on July 5.
