Josh Brolin Says He Didn’t Enjoy Having To Kill Loki In Avengers: Infinity War

“No resurrections this time…”

Between Deadpool 2 and Avengers: Infinity War, Josh Brolin has spent most of 2018 pulling double duty, as he terrorized (and ridiculed) the Merc With a Mouth, all the while jump-starting a Marvel apocalypse, much to the horror of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

To achieve such widespread destruction, Brolin’s Mad Titan (AKA Thanos) scoured the cosmos in search of the six Infinity Stones, ancient ingots that each boast near-limitless power. And when they’re all fixed to the Gauntlet? Total control of the universe and everyone in it, which is why Thanos was able to half the population simply by snapping his fingers.

But before that remarkably bleak finale, the Mad Titan was forced to do some dirty work in order to acquire each stone, be it killing his one true love, Gamora, in cold blood or choking Loki to death on board the Asgardian refugee ship. Turns out the latter scene was particularly difficult for Josh Brolin to film, as he was well aware of the character’s fanbase, not to mention Tom Hiddleston’s own love of the MCU.

Via USA Today, the Infinity War star waxed lyrical about the sequel’s finale, including why it still puts a smile on his face, before turning his attention to Loki, the God of Mischief.

He had been with that character for so long. And he’s so lauded for doing it. Tom was so vulnerable at that moment. So, choking him out wasn’t the most fun thing I have ever done.

Alas, unlike Star-Lord and his fallen allies, Loki’s death appears to be permanent, though we’ll have to wait until Avengers 4 arrives next summer before we have firm confirmation of the character’s fate.
