Though Ant-Man and the Wasp is yet to stage its theatrical debut, Evangeline Lilly is already anticipating her next appearance in the MCU.
Chances are that credit will come from Avengers 4, the so-far untitled sequel that’s coming by way of Joe and Anthony Russo, who are still riding high after the phenomenal, two-billion-dollar success story that is Avengers: Infinity War.
And Lilly? She’s simply excited to share the screen with Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel, after she told Entertainment Tonight that this is merely the beginning of Marvel Studios offering the spotlight to its female heroes.
You know what I was working, when I was working on Avengers I got to know Brie Larson pretty well, or as much as you can on a film, and her and I talked about it. And of course she’s going to be the next titled female superhero, she’s going to be Captain Marvel, and I’m sure this will be the beginning of many many more titled Marvel films. Black Widow. Scarlet Witch. I mean I don’t know who’s next or who’s going to get a film, but it’s not, it’s just the beginning.
This chimes with Kevin Feige’s previous comments about the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and how one day soon the franchise’s leading ladies will outnumber their male counterparts. There’s also the promise of more LGBTQ representation coming to the MCU further down the line, which is, frankly, a progressive step in the right direction.
Expect Ant-Man and the Wasp to scurry into U.S. theaters in time for July 6th (seven days, people!), where the Marvel sequel is looking to collect around $75M across its opening weekend. And after the blistering action of Infinity War, Peyton Reed’s imminent sequel has been hailed as a timely MCU palate cleanser.
