Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy

Mark Hamill Explains Why He May Not Want To Be In Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3

Back in February, Mark Hamill left a lot of people feeling very giddy when he said via Twitter that he’d be interested in meeting director James Gunn to discuss a possible role in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Sadly, such discussions have yet to take place, and the Star Wars actor may even be having second thoughts about the whole idea.

Speaking to Collider, Hamill expressed reservations about getting involved in another major, interplanetary franchise, telling the outlet the following:

“So, I like the movies, They’re fine. But I’m happy to be in the audience, there’s a lot less pressure. That’s why I like Solo and Rogue One so much. There was 100% less Hamill, so I didn’t have any sort of anxiety. I could just be in the audience, it was great.”

So, if there never comes a day when Luke Skywalker shares the screen with Star-Lord, we can gather from this statement that our loss would at least be his gain. Seeing how the man’s name is already synonymous with one space-based property – as well as having a special place in the hearts of many DC fans for the actor’s voice role as the Joker – it’s understandable that Hamill might not want to take the stress that comes with attaching yourself to a whole new blockbuster series.

All the same, his comments aren’t a flat-out denial, either, so perhaps we may still see Hamill taking the plunge into the MCU after all. For now, all we can do is wait and see if him and his neighbor Gunn manage to work something out.

Of course, given the terrible fates that most of the Guardians suffered in Avengers: Infinity War, staying out of the action might be the safe thing to do. Then again, we predict most of these characters will have made a full recovery by the time Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 comes out in 2020. After all, you can’t really make a movie revolving only around Rocket and Nebula, now can you?
