The titular heroine of the Captain Marvel comics hasn’t always worn a helmet when she’s busy saving the planet, and many would even prefer her to remain hatless in the upcoming movie. Nonetheless, there are also some vocal fans out there who’ve expressed their desire to see the headwear featured in the character’s much-anticipated solo outing.
Comic book scribe Kelly Sue DeConnick, for example, made her stance clear back in 2016 when she passionately lobbied for the helmet’s inclusion, saying:
“I love the helmet! That is not a universal opinion. After we left the book, they got rid of the helmet. I have a lot of boring continuity arguments on the history of the helmet and a list of reasons as to why the helmet exists. I want the helmet!”
Though all of the set pics and concept art that we’ve seen so far have shown the head of Carol Danvers to be exposed and unprotected, members of Team Helmet shouldn’t despair just yet, as Samuel L. Jackson has now offered hope by way of an Instagram post. The uploaded photo sees the actor wearing a T-shirt with an image of Captain Marvel on the front, dressed in the film version of her costume and wearing that divisive helmet.
Jackson’s photo was accompanied by a caption that foreshadows the inevitable conflict between the captain and Avengers villain Thanos, too, with it reading: “Newest Latest from Viz Effects crew!#thanosazzizgrazz#shereddy”
Helmet or no helmet, she’d better be ready, since Captain Marvel is supposed to be taking the lead in Phase 4 of the MCU. But before she joins the resistance against Thanos in Avengers 4, Carol will be fighting Skrulls in her first standalone film. The movie has now entered its final days of production and after Ant Man and the Wasp drops on July 6th, there’ll be no more MCU releases until Captain Marvel arrives in theaters on March 8th, 2019.
