Zachary Quinto Says The Abrams Cast May Appear In Quentin Tarantino’s Star Trek

Quentin Tarantino’s Star Trek movie – which is still a seriously bizarre thing to type out – might not be such a departure as longtime fans feared. Or at least, that’s if we take Zachary Quinto’s word, who’s played Spock in all three Kelvin Timeline reboot films.

The late 2017 announcement that Tarantino had successfully pitched a concept for a new Star Trek movie took pretty much everyone by surprise, with the director’s violent, no-holds-barred style feeling like an odd fit for the (relatively) squeaky clean, utopian Trek universe.

We all came to the conclusion that his vision for the franchise would necessarily be so at odds with what we’d seen before that he’d at minimum choose to focus on a new crew in the universe, or perhaps that he’d once again reboot the classic Enterprise crew. But now, in an appearance on MTV’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, Quinto’s explained the following:

“You know, until deals are done and contracts are signed and schedules are cleared, nothing is set in stone, so anything can happen. My understanding is Quentin had this idea and they were shaping it and forming it and he is off to do his Manson movie. And it would be after that, that we would go maybe do one with him. Which is pretty exciting, pretty cool.”

While the ‘nu-Trek’ movies have varied in quality, I’ve always admired the cast that J.J. Abrams assembled, with Quinto in particular doing an excellent job of re-interpreting Leonard Nimoy’s iconic Spock for a new generation. So, if Tarantino indeed decides to use the existing actors, at least he’s got a solid base of talent to work with, right?

Either way, we know that William ShatnerJohn Cho and the great Patrick Stewart (X-Men) have all voiced their support of Paramount and Tarantino’s bold new direction for the series, meaning the filmmaker’s probably got something pretty special cooked up here and once we learn more about what QT’s planning for Star Trek, we’ll be sure to let you know.
