Marvel Studios’ first short film, The Consultant, which is designed to bridge the gap between The Incredible Hulk and The Avengers, has hit the web.

Included on the upcoming Thor DVD/Blu-Ray, which will be released on September 13, the film is the first of two shorts Marvel is putting together to lead up to the superhero collective film The Avengers.

In the film, SHIELD Agents Coulson (Clark Gregg) and Sitwell (Maximiliano Hernández) meet to discuss their orders to recruit Emil Blonsky, aka The Abomination (who was the featured villain in The Incredible Hulk played by Tim Roth), to be a member of The Avengers.

This is a brilliant move by Marvel to link all of the post-credit scenes that were featured at the end of each of their superhero films (and if you didn’t stick around to see them, then shame on you and check them out ASAP).

The next short film, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor’s Hammer, will be included with the Captain America: The First Avenger DVD/Blu-Ray set to be released on October 25. It’s said to pick up after Agent Coulson leaves Tony Stark’s lab in Malibu during Iron Man 2 and occurs before he arrives at the crater site in Thor.
