Robin Wright Says She Didn’t Really Know Kevin Spacey On House Of Cards

When House of Cards returns for its sixth and final season later this year, it'll be a changed show. Due to Kevin Spacey becoming embroiled in an extensive and ongoing sexual harassment scandal, the Netflix political drama will now revolve around Robin Wright's Claire Underwood, Frank's wife who took over as President in the shocking finale of season 5.

When House of Cards returns for its sixth and final season later this year, it’ll be a changed show. Due to Kevin Spacey becoming embroiled in an extensive and ongoing sexual harassment scandal, the Netflix political drama will now revolve around Robin Wright’s Claire Underwood, Frank’s wife who took over as President in the shocking finale of season 5.

For a while there, though, it looked like the series was to be simply cancelled once Spacey was out of the picture. Thankfully, that didn’t happen, and we’ve heard from actress Patricia Clarkson that Wright herself “led the charge” to get House of Cards renewed for one more year in order to give the rest of the talented cast and crew the chance to wrap up the story in the way it was intended.

We haven’t heard much from Wright on the subject, however. Until now, that is. The actress has broken her silence on the subject of her former co-star in an interview with NBC’s Today. A promo for the show was posted on Twitter which teased the star explaining that she feels she never knew Spacey beyond their working relationship on set.

“Kevin and I knew each other between action and cut, and in between setups where we would giggle. I didn’t really– I didn’t know the man. I knew the incredible craftsman that he is.”

Wright’s measured words are similar to what other actors who’ve worked with Spacey have said about him. While they admire his talent as an actor, he was not someone you’d want to know in a personal way. Baby Driver‘s Jon Bernthal explained, for instance, that he was once a big fan of Spacey’s but found him to be a “bully” on the set of the Edgar Wright movie.

As for House of Cards, season 6 will consist of eight episodes rather than the usual thirteen and as soon as we’ve got an exact premiere date to share, we’ll be sure to let you know.
