Aquaman Black Manta

Aquaman Statues Offer First Look At Black Manta’s Full Costume

Jason Momoa's King of Atlantis returns to his underwater kingdom in this December's Aquaman - but we still have yet to see much in the way of publicity for the movie. It's likely that there will be a trailer on the way at San Diego Comic-Con next week but before that arrives we have these collectible statues of a few characters from the film which reveal the full look of one of Arthur Curry's most dangerous enemies for the first time.

UPDATE: These photos have been removed at the request of DC.

Jason Momoa’s King of Atlantis returns to his underwater kingdom in this December’s Aquaman, but we still have yet to see much in the way of publicity for the movie. There will be a trailer dropping at San Diego Comic-Con next week, though before that arrives, we now have these collectible statues of a few characters from the film which reveal the full look of one of Arthur Curry’s most dangerous enemies for the first time.

The three statues, as unveiled by the DC Collectibles YouTube channel (via ComicBookMovie.com), depict Aquaman, his future queen Mera (Amber Heard) and David Hyde AKA Black Manta, as played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. Seen in the galley below, they give us another glimpse at the more comic-accurate orange suit that Arthur will wear during his first solo movie, as opposed to the washed out armor he was seen in during Justice League. Mera’s figure also promises that the Atlantean warrior will possess her wave manipulation powers from the source material.

The most interesting, though, is the reveal of Black Manta’s outfit. The villain has one of the most distinctive looks in DC’s rogues gallery, so there would have been hell to pay if the Aquaman costumes team had messed it up. Thankfully, it’s about as close to a straight replication of the character’s classic suit as possible.

This follows our first glimpse at Black Manta’s helmet, as unveiled by EW, which saw Abdul-Mateen II’s villain apparently testing out his new underwater diving suit. Curiously, the helmet in the photo appears to be a slightly different shape from the one depicted in the statue, so perhaps he’ll redesign his costume over the course of the movie, much like how Arthur Curry will go through a few different suits himself.

Either way, we’ll have a better idea of what’s in store for us when the first Aquaman trailer swims into Comic-Con on July 19th.
