Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse Star Teases The Journey Of Miles Morales

Being Spider-Man must be a real drag sometimes. Sure, having great power can be a lot of fun, but that whole ‘great responsibility’ part of the deal must put quite a damper on things, especially given how much time and energy Spidey seems to spend trying to balance the two contrasting sides of his double life. But while Peter Parker at least had the honor of being one of the most distinguished superheroes on the planet, Miles Morales in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse won’t even have that occupational perk.

In the upcoming animation, Shameik Moore will be voicing just one of several Spider-Men in a reality that’s also inhabited by a Peter Parker who’s grown well beyond his teens. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the actor makes it clear that Miles’ situation and his struggles are of a different nature from what we’ve seen in previous Spider-Man films.

“This power is kind of handed to [Miles] when he’s not really looking for more responsibility,” Moore explains. “That phrase — ‘with great power comes great responsibility’ — it means the same thing, but it comes from a different place with this Spider-Man.”

Moore goes on to explain how the character’s journey will require Miles to find his place and purpose in the Spider-Verse with the help of a familiar face.

“Everybody has a purpose and a reason and a place,” Moore says. “I think that’s what [Miles’s] conflict is — finding his place. He’s like, ‘If there’s Peter, then how do I be Spider-Man? Can you teach me? How do I do this?’”

Evidently, there’s more than one way to go about being Spider-Man, seeing how Gwen Stacey is also confirmed to be donning the Spider-Gwen outfit and it was recently revealed that Nicolas Cage could be taking on the role of Spider-Man Noir.

Hopefully, we’ll be seeing all of them in action when Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is released on December 14th, 2018. But if you’d prefer a slightly more traditional, one-Spidey experience, Spider-Man: Far From Home comes out on July 5th, 2019.
